Final Engine Testing

Here's a vid of the engine back in after painting the engine bay and fitting a straight through exhaust. The noise was immense, the muffler will have to go back on I think haha. The jet unit was connected up at this point to check the whole drivetrain. A splitter from the hose is sending coolant to the engine and also to the impellers to help the impellers bed into the ABS wear rings in the jet unit.

    Thanks. Not many left now. Hope to get a video of it on the water this year. Just needs a new windscreen and coat of polyurethane paint now and it will be like new.

    Very nice and interesting blog on the Meteor, I am awaiting with interest your piece on the timing and Carb settings for the Bing and the Rotax. By the way I have 2 Meteors.

    Hi Liam,
    I am currently running 18 degrees max advance on the ignition (stock setting). I will increase this to 20 on the next outing, then carefully increase timing from there in combination with the carb settings. I will not exceed 25 degrees though. I will also be fitting a rev counter so i can see what the maximum revs are up to, and then re-pitch the prop for some extra speed. I think 40 mph is possible with the stock motor and impeller with all the settings right. Once i've got it running its best i'll post up the settings.

    By the way does anyone know how many Meteor Jet Boats are still in existence.

    I reckon there's no more than 5 in the UK in working condition. Probably up to 50 rotting away in backyards.
    They were very expensive when new so not many sold. Most people went for the cheaper outboard. Would be interesting to know how many were made.
